Dr. Sajjad Ali is a highly qualified pulmonologist with a robust academic foundation. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Peshawar University in 2003. Driven by his passion for respiratory medicine, he pursued further specialization, earning his MCPS in Medicine in 2008. He completed his Fellowship from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (FCPS) in Pulmonology in 2013. His academic credentials are further bolstered by his roles as a CPSP Supervisor and Examiner, underscoring his dedication to medical education and training.
 
Professional Experience
Dr. Sajjad Ali career spans over two decades, marked by a series of progressively responsible roles in the field of pulmonology. Beginning as a Medical Officer in the Chest Ward at Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, he honed his skills in respiratory medicine. From 2016 to 2020, he served as the Assistant Professor of Pulmonology and Incharge of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at MTI Mardan Medical Complex, where he played a pivotal role in managing critically ill patients and implementing standard ICU treatment protocols.
 
Since January 2021, Dr. Sajjad Ali has been serving as the Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pulmonology at MTI Mardan Medical Complex. In this capacity, he oversees the clinical, academic, and administrative functions of the department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients with complex respiratory conditions.
 
Leadership in Healthcare
Dr. Sajjad Ali is renowned for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he was appointed as the focal person at Mardan Medical Complex. His strategic foresight and operational acumen were instrumental in the development of a comprehensive COVID-19 response infrastructure, including the establishment of COVID ICUs, High Dependency Units (HDUs), and assistance in the installation of a liquid oxygen plant to ensure a steady supply of oxygen across the hospital. He also spearheaded the formulation of treatment guidelines for COVID-19 patients and introduced non-invasive ventilation techniques, significantly improving patient outcomes during the crisis.
 
In addition to his contributions during the pandemic, Dr. Sajjad Ali has been a key figure in the establishment of a specialized Chest Unit and was responsible for the development of the state-of-the-art Pulmonology Department at MTI Mardan Medical Complex, which now offers a full spectrum of modern respiratory services, including spirometry, bronchoscopy, pleural biopsy, and advanced treatment modalities such as CPAP and BiPAP. The department also provides training to undergraduate students and postgraduate trainees in the field. His efforts in establishing a PMDT unit for the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) have been widely recognized, reflecting his commitment to addressing public health challenges.
 
Academic and Research Contributions
As a dedicated academic, Dr. Sajjad Ali has significantly contributed to the field of pulmonology through his involvement in postgraduate medical education. He successfully obtained accreditation for the Chest Unit at MTI Mardan Medical Complex for FCPS and MCPS training, allowing the institution to induct and train residents in pulmonology for the first time. His roles as a CPSP and KMU examiner further highlight his dedication to nurturing the next generation of medical professionals.
 
Dr. Sajjad Ali is also an active researcher with numerous publications in reputable national and international journals. His research interests include the effects of biomass fuel on lung function, the clinical outcomes of tuberculosis treatment, and the prognostic factors in COVID-19 patients.
