MIS Department

Information Technology Department:

The Information Technology (IT) Department of MTI Mardan was officially established in June 2017 with the recruitment of a Manager–IT, marking the beginning of a new digital era for the institution. Prior to this, all hospital operations were managed through a traditional manual paper-based system, which limited the efficiency, data accessibility, and coordination between departments.

Vision and Objective:

The primary objective of establishing the IT Department was to develop a fully integrated, paperless environment by leveraging modern information and communication technologies. The long-term vision focused on implementing a comprehensive Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) — a platform designed to unify patient care, administrative functions, and financial operations under one digital ecosystem.

Development of the Information Technology Centre (ITC):

Recognizing the vital role of technology in healthcare delivery, the management of MTI Mardan took a major initiative in 2019 by establishing a state-of-the-art Information Technology Centre (ITC). This facility is one of the most advanced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and serves as the digital nerve center for all MTI institutions.

Network Infrastructure:

The ITC is built on a robust 10 Gbps Fiber Optic Backbone, ensuring high-speed, stable, and redundant data connectivity. Each end-user across departments enjoys a 1 Gbps LAN connection, providing seamless access to digital systems and online resources.

The infrastructure includes:

  • Core and Aggregation Fiber Switches for data redundancy and uninterrupted communication
  • On-Prim Data Center hosting critical servers, storage systems, and backup solutions
  • Secure VPN and firewall systems to ensure data protection and network security

All constituent institutions under the umbrella of MTI Mardan — including Mardan Medical Complex (MMC), Bacha Khan Medical College (BKMC), Bacha Khan Dental College (BKDC), College of Nursing Mardan (CNM), and College of Medical Technology (CMT) — are interconnected via long-haul fiber optic links with the central ITC Data Center, enabling unified access to LMS / HMIS and other digital services.

Hospital Management Information System (HMIS):

The HMIS serves as the core digital platform for all hospital operations. It is a web-based application that integrates clinical, administrative, and financial workflows across departments.

Major Implemented Modules:

  • Financial & Administrative Operations:
    • Receipt generation at all counters (Accident & Emergency, OPD, IPD, Pathology, Radiology, and Blood Bank)
    • Financial transactions and payroll management through digital accounts
  • Clinical Modules:
  • Patient registration, admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Investigation booking and lab integration
  • Medicine indenting and pharmacy synchronization
  • Surgeries/Procedures scheduling and discharge summaries
  • PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) integrated for CT, MRI, X-Ray, and Fluoroscopy
  • E-Reporting for radiology and pathology results
  • Integration with SSP / satellite Pharmacies and MMD Stores
  • Automated stock tracking and issuance
  • Sehat Sahulat Program (SSP) module for patient eligibility and billing
  • IBPP Module for staff and consultant payment records
  • Diagnostics
  • Pharmacy & Inventory

Together, these modules enable paperless workflows, real-time data sharing, and faster patient service delivery, significantly improving hospital efficiency and patient satisfaction.
